What is The Vermilion Mask about?
The battle fantasy anime is based on the manga series written by Dr.Poro and illustrated by Nabana Naba. It started publishing in February 2021 in Shōnen Gahōsha's Young King OURs magazine. The official anime website describes its story as (machine translated):
Mask of the War God, Mask of the Spider, Mask of the Fire Dragon, Mask of Courage, the Vermilion Mask…
These masks grant power to those who wear them.
Sometimes they unlock infinite possibilities, and sometimes they bring about unimaginable disasters.
Peru, a disciple of the legendary mask maker Gaston Roux, loses control after wearing the Mask of the War God one day.
Under this mask’s control, he goes on an unintentional rampage and kills his friends and master.
Upon waking up, Peru is crushed under the despair of his actions, and vows to destroy every mask his master had ever created as a way of atonement, which are now scattered all over the world.
“It sounds cool to call it atonement, but it's not that impressive.”
Encounters with friends, clashes with formidable enemies…
