The platform is gunning to become the preferred destination for anime.

During the first Prime Video Presents: International Originals online showcase, Gaurav Gandhi, Prime Video’s Vice President for APAC & ANZ, revealed that the streaming platform aims to become the main global platform for anime. He also revealed some of the main titles coming to the streaming platform this year.

The three main titles coming to the streaming platforms were revealed

As per the report via Deadline, Gandhi said that anime is a category that experienced explosive growth in the last few years. As for the plans Prime Video has for anime, he revealed, “Given that we are the home for the best anime in Japan, we want to become the preferred destination for anime content globally too.”

The first anime he pointed to is Fist of the North Star: Hokuto No Ken, a TMS Entertainment reimagination of the original Fist of the North Star manga by Buronson and Tetsuo Hara. Prime Video has exclusive global streaming rights for the series.

The next title Gandhi previewed at the showcase was The Ghost in the Shell, another remake anime by Science SARU that takes on Masamune Shirow’s influential sci-fi manga Ghost in the Shell. Gandhi called it “The most influential Japanese sci-fi work of all time.” The series is set to premiere in July 2026

The third and final title showcased was From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman Season 2. The first season was a massive success and ranked amongst Prime Video’s top 10 titles across 45 countries. The streamer is hopeful about the series’ continued popularity. The second season of the show will air in July 2026

Given the cultural impact and growth of anime in the last few years, it’s not surprising that Prime Video wants a share in the success. With Fist of the North Star and The Ghost in the Shell, both remakes of classics, they have a chance of pulling in a wide range of audiences to the platform.
