Why is the Fairy Tail manga miniseries coming earlier?

Hiro Mashima’s official X (formerly Twitter) account revealed that the release date for the miniseries has been changed from 5 August to 29 July. With the serialisation moving up a week, fans can now read the series earlier.

The post has also revealed that Hiro Mashima worked on the new project much faster than the editorial department of Kodansha’s Weekly Shōnen Magazine had anticipated. That’s why they decided to start the release early in order for the new series to reach the fans as soon as possible.

This manga miniseries is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the manga, which began back in 2006. Moreover, starting 11 April, the Fairy Tail anime started streaming for free on the Anime Times YouTube channel to celebrate the monumental occasion with fans.

What is Fairy Tail about?

The original Fairy Tail manga by Hiro Mashima began in 2006 and ended after 11 years in 2017. A prequel spin-off by Mashima, titled Fairy Tail Zero, and a sequel spin-off titled  Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest, storyboarded by him, have also been launched. An anime adaptation came out in 2009 and ended in 2013. The second season aired from 2014 to 2016, and a third season from 2018 to 2019. Kodansha describes the original Fairy Tail manga as:

Cute girl wizard Lucy wants to join the Fairy Tail, a club for the most powerful wizards. But instead her ambitions land her in the clutches of a gang of unsavory pirates led by a devious magician. Her only hope is Natsu, a strange boy she happens to meet on her travels. Natsu’s not your typical hero—he gets motion sickness, eats like a pig, and his best friend is a talking cat. With friends like this, is Lucy better off with her enemies?
