The return of the Fairy Tail manga is now official, with creator Hiro Mashima confirming a brand-new short-term manga serialisation as part of the series’ 20th anniversary celebrations.
The announcement was made on 8 April, alongside a wider slate of 20th-anniversary projects for the franchise, spanning anime, merchandise, and live events.

When will the new Fairy Tail manga start?
The upcoming serialisation is set to launch on 5 August 2026 in Weekly Shonen Magazine Issue 36 to 37. Mashima addressed fans directly following the reveal, stating: “Even though the manga ended quite some time ago, the fact that we can still celebrate it like this is entirely thanks to the unwavering support of all the readers.” He added that preparations are already underway for a broader campaign spanning into 2027, noting that there will be “lots of new goods and events” tied to the milestone. “Let’s celebrate the 20th anniversary together! I’m fired up!” Mashima said to conclude his announcement.
What else is part of the Fairy Tail 20th anniversary?
Beyond the new manga, several initiatives were confirmed as part of the anniversary project unveiled on 8 April. A dedicated anniversary website has been launched, alongside a promotional video featuring “Snow Fairy” by FUNKIST, the original opening theme from the Fairy Tail anime.
The TV anime will also be streamed in full on the Anime Times YouTube channel starting 11 April. All 328 episodes will be made available, with updates scheduled weekly every Saturday at 10:30 AM. New merchandise is also part of the anniversary rollout, including a newly announced figure of Erza Scarlet. In addition, Mashima is set to host a signing tour across five cities in Japan: Hokkaido, Tokyo, Aichi, Osaka, and Fukuoka.
