We now have a new look at WIT Studio’s One Piece anime retelling.

Following up on the release of One Piece Season 2: Into the Grand Line last month, Netflix had three big new announcements for fans of the One Piece franchise this week. The streaming platform announced a title for Season 3 of the One Piece live-action adaptation, an all-new LEGO One Piece special, and a closer look at WIT Studio’s The One Piece anime.

When is One Piece Season 3 coming out on Netflix?

Netflix confirmed this week that Season 2 of its One Piece live-action adaptation has been a “massive success,” debuting at #1 on its Global Top 10 list with positive reviews. Thus, it’s “officially opening the hatches, drawing from the original source material for fans to experience this beloved world and its iconic characters in new ways.”

That begins with Season 3 of One Piece, entitled One Piece: The Battle of Alabasta. This season will see the Straw Hat Pirates head into Princess Vivi’s homeland of Alabasta. Here’s Netflix’s synopsis for the upcoming season:

"In this upcoming season, war is coming for Monkey D. Luffy and the Straw Hat crew in the desert kingdom of Alabasta, Princess Vivi’s homeland. A rebellion threatens to tear the nation apart, fueled in secret by one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea, the ruthless Sir Crocodile, and his underground syndicate Baroque Works, who seek to conquer Alabasta for themselves.

“In a season defined by unbreakable bonds and impossible choices, the Straw Hats must face a brewing civil war and a powerful warlord to save Vivi’s kingdom before it crumbles into the sand. Fans can look forward to formidable new enemies and brand-new worlds where the stakes have never been higher.”

Season 3 looks to adapt a war story, which might set it apart from the multi-story structure of Season 2.

What is the LEGO One Piece animated special?

In an arguably more surprising reveal, Netflix also confirmed that a LEGO One Piece animated special is now in development, and is planned for release on 29 September, 2026. Here’s a trailer:

The animated special is produced by the LEGO Group, Shueisha, and Atomic, and is described as “the perfect entryway for new recruits and an exciting new perspective for veteran pirates.”

When is WIT Studio’s The One Piece anime coming out?

WIT Studio’s upcoming anime adaptation of the One Piece manga serves to retell the original anime’s story with less filler content. The anime, entitled “The One Piece,” was originally announced all the way back in December 2023, but has given few updates since.

This week, that changed. Netflix showed off a closer look at the anime’s character designs for the Straw Hats, including Luffy, Nami, Zoro, and Usopp. The video did not give much else away regarding the anime, which suggests that it’s still far from release at this time.

The One Piece is in production at WIT Studio, in collaboration with Shueisha, Toei Animation and Fuji Television Network, reimagining the iconic East Blue saga. The anime still does not have a release date.
