The movie premiers on Netflix on 22 January, 2026.
The Netflix original anime movie “Cosmic Princess Kaguya!”, which is the feature-length directorial debut of Shingo Yamashita, will be released on the platform on 22 January 2026. Ahead of the premiere, a new trailer, new cast, and other details were revealed.
Cosmic Princess Kaguya! new cast, staff, and other details
The newly announced characters for the film are:
- Miyu Irino as Akira Mikado
- Yuma Uchida as Rai Komazawa
- Yoshitsugu Matusoka as Noi Komazawa
- Yoshino Aoyama as Roka Ayatsumugi
- Konomi Kohara as Mami Isayama
- Fairouz Ai as Otako the Loyal Dog
- Natsuki Hanae as Koto Okkotteru
Previously announced cast members of the anime film include:
- Yūko Natsuyoshi as Kaguya
- Anna Nagase as Iroha
- Saori Hayami as Yachiyo
- Rie Kugimiya as Fushi
The English dub cast of the film has also been revealed. It includes:

- Frankie Kevich as Yachiyo (singing voice)
- Max Mittleman as Akira
- Casey Mongillo as Noi

The latest trailer gives fans a glimpse of what’s to come. It also features the main theme song ‘Ex-Otogibanashi’ by Ryo (supercell) and ‘Shunkan, Symphony.’ by 40mP.
Shingo Yamashita is directing the movie as his feature film debut at Studio Colorido and Studio Chromato. Yamashita and Saeri Natsuo wrote the screenplay together. Hechima and Nagae Akihiro design the characters while Conisch composes the music.
Netflix will exclusively stream the movie worldwide and describes the story as:
Iroha, a high school student living on her own, has her life upended when she takes in Kaguya, who came from the moon. Eventually, they bond over their shared love for virtual idols in the metaverse “Tsukuyomi”. But like the original “Princess Kaguya”, Kaguya cannot stay on earth forever…
It was previously also announced that Cosmic Princess Kaguya! is also getting a novel and a manga adaptation. Taro Yoneda will create the manga, the first two chapters of which will be published on 9 January 2026, in Kadokawa's Comptiq magazine. The novel adaptation will be written by Naruto Kiriyama and illustrated by Asao Urata. It’s set to come out on 30 January.
