Back in July 2025, it was announced that Keigo Shinzō’s critically acclaimed manga series “Hirayasumi” is getting an anime adaptation. Kei Suwezawa directs the anime at Production +h. He is also handling the series scripts and composition. Naoyuki Asano designs the characters, while Mika Nishimura is the art director. Kaori Sawasa is the soundtrack composer for the show.

A new teaser visual of the series protagonist Hiroto Ikuta and Ba-chan (grandma) has been revealed. Unfortunately, no details about the cast has been announced as of yet.

The anime is based on Keigo Shinzō’s manga, which began serialisation in Shogakukan’s Weekly Big Comic Spirits magazine in April 2021. The series won the Tokyo News Services' TV Bros magazine Bros. Comic Award in 2021, and also co-won the 71st Shogakukan Manga Award in 2026. It was also nominated for The Best Manga 2022 Kono Manga wo Yome! award by Freestyle Magazine, and ranked sixth on the Publisher Comics' Recommended Comics of 2022. It was nominated for the 15th Manga Taishō in 2022 and was placed third. It received another nomination for the same award in 2024 and placed ninth. In 2023 it was nominated for the prestigious Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize.

The critically acclaimed manga received a live-action adaptation which aired from November to December 2025.

Viz Media publishes the manga in English and describes the story as:

At 29 years old, carefree Hiroto Ikuta doesn’t have a girlfriend, a full-time job, or a plan for the future—and he couldn’t be happier. Hiroto’s breezy attitude isn’t easy for everyone to understand, though. In a world filled with anxiety, confusion, and grief, Hiroto and the people who surround him are all just doing their best to figure out this thing called life.

After developing an unlikely friendship with the grouchy old woman who lives in his neighborhood, Hiroto suddenly finds himself inheriting not just her house but some rather difficult emotions as well. His 18-year-old cousin, Natsumi, moves in with him, but as a struggling art student, she has her own troubles to deal with and may just put Hiroto’s easygoing lifestyle to the test.
