Rin and Kouki combine their power to unlock a new transformation.
In the last chapter of the Dandadan manga, we saw that Rin and Kouki were being approached by suspicious figures during their trip to the mall. In the recent update, it was revealed that they were a trio led by Enenra, the Smoke Yokai who was beaten by Evil Eye and Jiji. One of his lackeys starts to use his weird fart-fire power in battle, and Rin and Kouki have to work together to defeat him.

Dandadan Chapter 222 recap
The issue begins with revealing the three men standing in front of Rin and Kouki. One of them is Enenra, the smoke yokai Jiji fought before. Between the other two, one is a monocled man with a top hat who’s seen reading an adult magazine. The other is a long-haired man with a bald spot, who has really muscular arms and wears tiny sunglasses. The monocled person is seen wearing a carved pumpkin around his waist. He turns around and seemingly farts a cloud through the pumpkin’s face. He then turns back to flick something into the smoke which turns it into lethal fire flames.
Rin is barely able to help Kouki dodge the attack. The bald-spot man asks Enenra if they need the strength of knights like them to take down these pigs. Enenra tells him not to drop his guard, as even pigs can bite. While running away from the flames, Rin calls upon Mai. The yokai helps her transform into her idol yokai form. Rin then uses her gravity manipulation power to turn the Pumpkin guy around, so he can’t send his smoke their way. She then asks Kouki if she can also use her powers.
Kouki looks around, and notices that the pygmies have already arranged her piano for her. As she starts playing it, millions of flies attack the Pumpkin man. However, he uses her fire power to kill most of the bugs. Mai asks if Rin can do anything for the flames, but Rin answers that even though she can change the gravity of a person, it doesn’t work with flames. Even when she turns the man the other way, the flames still reach them. Kouki says that the pygmies have assured her that if they work together, they can get out of this predicament.
Before the next attack, Kouki starts playing with all her might. Rin uses her shell to cover both of them as the flames engulf their surroundings. But Kouki doesn’t stop playing and her eyes take on a new glitter. From the smoke emerges millions of cockroaches. In the final panel, we see that Rin’s idol outfit has transformed into a cockroach-like attire, and Kouki’s new clothes resemble a fly.
Dandadan Chapter 22 review
When it comes to new characters, powers, and transformations, it seems Yukinobu Tatsu has a never-ending treasure trove to pull from. The Pumpkin-man was both funny, and a perfect counter to Kouki’s fly power with his flames. However, this forces Kouki to evolve further and unlock another insect: cockroaches. Not only does she control them, but she is able to fuse her powers with Rin’s to transform her as well.
It seems that we’ll see how Rin deals with her new powers in the next chapter, while Kouki plays the piano in her fly outfit. It’s likely that the muscular bald-spot man will also reveal his abilities soon.
