A Certain Scientific Railgun manga will end after 19 years

According to a report by Oricon News, the April issue of the Monthly Comic Dengeki Daioh announced that A Certain Scientific Railgun manga will come to an end after the next issue. The manga has been publishing for almost 19 years as it began back in 2007.

A Certain Scientific Railgun manga is a spin-off series of Kazuma Kamachi’s original light novel series A Certain Magical Index. It centers around the character Mikoto Misaka and the ‘scientific’ part of the world, while the Index series focuses on the magical side. Seven Seas Entertainment publishes the manga in English and describes the story as:

Welcome to a world where mysticism and science collide, and supernatural powers are derived from either science or religion. At the heart of this world is Academy City, an advanced metropolis whose population is comprised mostly of students. The majority of students are enrolled in the city's "Power Curriculum Program," where they must learn to master their latent psychic powers. Out of several million students, only seven are deemed powerful enough to have Level 5 status.

Meet Mikoto Misaka, the third most powerful Level 5 esper in Academy City. Together with her best friend Kuroko Shirai and the other members of Judgment, a student-run law enforcement agency, Mikoto delves deep into the dark heart of the scientific sprawl she calls home, and uncovers secrets she wishes she hadn't!

An anime series based on A Certain Scientific Railgun came out in 2009, and it was animated by J.C. Staff. The second season premiered in 2013, and the third season in 2020. The fourth season of the anime has been announced. Moreover a manga spin-off titled A Certain Scientific Railgun: Astral Buddy was published from 2017 to 2020.

A few days ago, it was announced that another light-novel series in the ‘A Certain’ franchise, titled A Certain Item of Dark Side (Toaru Anbu no ITEM) is getting an anime adaptation.
