The pilot film will make its world premiere at Anime Expo 2026.
A brand-new original anime project from legendary artist Yoshitaka Amano is officially in production. Titled ZAN, the upcoming limited anime series will premiere its pilot film during the Anime Expo 2026 panel Yoshitaka Amano: Art & Entertainment—A New Creative Challenge on 3 July.
The announcement also confirms that the project's first trailer will debut during the event.
What is “ZAN” about?
Based on both original and newly created artwork by Amano, ZAN is described as a hand-drawn sci-fi action fantasy that spans time and space.
Originally introduced in 2010 as the art project DEVA ZAN, the franchise's universe consists of more than 300 original artworks created by Amano. The world later reached international audiences when Dark Horse Comics published an official art book in 2013.
According to the announcement, the anime will blend Amano's artwork with hand-drawn animation to tell a dark fantasy story filled with stylish heroes, sword battles, dynamic action, and a storyline that crosses multiple eras and worlds.
