The long-awaited anime adaptation to Kamome Shirahama’s popular manga has also revealed a teaser promotional video.

After a disappointing delay in release, the upcoming “Witch Hat Atelier” anime has finally revealed new updates for eager fans, which includes an all-new teaser video, a main cast announcement, and a broadcast window of April 2026!

The teaser video:

Natsuki Hanae, Rena Motomura joins cast

The role of Coco will be performed by Rena Motomura. She is known for voicing Marie Sheridan in “Betrothed to My Sister’s Ex”, Kyouka Kitahara in “Maebashi Witches”, and the supporting character Fred Thompson in Re:Zero Season 3.

In a comment celebrating her role, she states:

I'm Reina Motomura, and I'll be playing the role of Coco. Every time I turn the page, I'm reminded of the little things that happened every day when I was a child, and the feelings of longing for my dreams.

I saw myself in this character and became obsessed with it.

The moment I was cast for the role, I was so happy that tears started flowing before I could even cry.

The magical world depicted by Kamome Shirahama has been turned into a fantastic anime.

I also did my best to play Coco.

I hope it reaches as many people as possible.

The role of Qifrey on the other hand, is taken by voice acting veteran and legend, Natsuki Hanae, who is most known for his role as Tanjiro Kamado in “Kimetsu no Yaiba: Demon Slayer”, Ken “Okarun” Takakura in “DAN DA DAN”, and Ken Kaneki in “Tokyo Ghoul”.

In a comment celebrating his casting, Hanae states:

I am honored to play the important character of Qifrey, who has a gentle yet sad gaze and a somewhat mysterious air about him.

Additionally, Motomura-san, a junior at the agency, plays the role of Coco, so I imagine they were able to have a master-disciple-like relationship during the recording process.

The fantastical and beautiful world depicted by Shirahama-sensei has been transformed into a wonderful animation by Director Watanabe.

Please look forward to it airing.

Ayumu Watanabe directs the anime at BUG FILMS. Kairi Unabara designs the characters, while Yuka Kitamura composes the music. The show was initially slated for a 2025 release, but was unfortunately delayed due to production issues

The anime adapts Kamome Shirahama’s popular manga “Witch Hat Atelier”, which has been serialised in Kodansha’s Morning Two seinen manga magazine since 2016. It has been collected into 14 tankobon volumes as of April 2025, and has received a number of awards, including: the Harvey Award for Best Manga in 2020, and the Eisner Award for Best U.S Edition of International Material–Asia in 2025.

Kodansha distributes the manga in English, and describes the story as:

In a world where everyone takes wonders like magic spells and dragons for granted, Coco is a girl with a simple dream: She wants to be a witch. But everybody knows magicians are born, not made, and Coco was not born with a gift for magic. Resigned to her un-magical life, Coco is about to give up on her dream to become a witch…until the day she meets Qifrey, a mysterious, traveling magician. After secretly seeing Qifrey perform magic in a way she’s never seen before, Coco soon learns what everybody “knows” might not be the truth, and discovers that her magical dream may not be as far away as it may seem…
