The spin-off journey begins with Record of Lodoss War.
LINE Digital Frontier, a part of WEBTOON Entertainment, has joined hands with KADOKAWA and Redice Studio to launch a new webcomic label STUDIO WHITE. This new studio will solely focus on various Japanese IPs (anime, manga, novel), and release original spin-off webcomics for global audiences. The first project on STUDIO WHITE’s roster is a new spin-off of Record of Lodoss War by Ryo Mizuno. The webcomic will debut on 9 May in Korean exclusively on WEBTOON platforms.
What other spin-offs has STUDIO WHITE planned?
The first spin-off of Record of Lodoss War will be released in Korean on 9 May, 2026. It has also been revealed that the series will eventually be translated into several other languages including: Japanese in late 2026, English, French, Traditional Chinese, Thai, and Indonesian. The creator Mizuno is contributing to the original concept of the webtoon, which will focus on an untold story within the Lodoss universe.
Beyond the first project, STUDIO WHITE has planned to expand its roster with several other KADOKAWA owned IPs, including Sword Art Online (Reki Kawahara and illustrator abec), Slayers (Hajime Kanzaka), and The Familiar of Zero (Noboru Yamaguchi). The projects’ production will be handled by Redice Studio, known for the beloved webtoon titles such as Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint, 7FATES: CHAKHO, and Assassin’s Creed: Forgotten Temple.
As digital native formats such as webtoons slowly take over the market, this new venture ensures the stronghold of KADOKAWA, WEBTOON, and REDICE STUDIO over the market. With KADOKAWA’s extensive catalogue, REDICE’s production capabilities, and WEBTOON’s global network, the companies plan to produce new stories based on beloved IPs to bring more people into the world of webcomics.
