Veteran voice actor Masaru Ikeda dead at 83

He was known for voicing multiple characters in the 1977 Yatterman series. 

It was announced by the talent agency Haikyō that veteran anime voice actor Masaru Ikeda has died at the age of 83. He passed away on 31 January 2026, due to myocardial infarction induced heart failure. 

A private funeral was arranged for him, which was only attended by close relatives.

Masaru Ikeda will be remembered fondly by the anime community

Born on 27 September, 1942, Ikeda is most popularly known for his work in the 1977 Yatterman anime series. In the show, he voiced most of the mecha robots including Yatter-Wan, Yatter-King, Yatter-Pelican, Yatter-Angler, Yatter-Phant, Yatter-Bull, Yatter-Dozilla, and Yatter-Panda. 

He also voiced General Revill in the 1979 Mobile Suit Gundam, Jamitov Hymem in the 1985 Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam-, and Ikki Yoneda in the 1996 Sakura Wars. Ikeda continued to work well into the 2010s, and voiced Director Udo Haineman in Monster, Koreyoshi Kitamura in Death Note, and Nekomamushi in One Piece. 

Due to his work in the Yatterman series, Ikeda is remembered fondly by those who grew up watching the classic mecha series. The veteran voice actor had given much to the world of anime during his lifetime. The industry continues to mourn his loss.
