Studio NUT has made The Saga of Tanya the Evil and the Blue Giant anime movie.

It was announced by the Japanese anime production company Twin Engine Inc., that it has acquired shares of the animation studio NUT. co. ltd. Studio NUT will become part of Twin Engine’s group company EOTA (Engine of the Animation). This acquisition is to strengthen Twin Engine’s studio-driven IP development plans.

Twin Engine and studio NUT future plans

NUT will become part of Twin Engine’s EOTA group company, whose main goal is to develop many different types of creative projects with both the studio and the creators as the driving force. Twin Engine’s acquisition of NUT is to speed up the creation of original IPs and also increase the value of all its content long-term.

There are currently 18 studios and creative units in EOTA, including BUG FILMS, Studio Kafka, Studio Colorido, Geno Studio, Scooter Films, Studio Chromato, and now Studio NUT. Working together within EOTA means these companies get to develop projects which highlight their unique strengths and benefit from the shared operational structure and resources.

Studio NUT will continue to work as an independent studio, while also leveraging the broader scopes provided by Twin Engine. It will allow them to retain their own creative identity while also working on more ambitious IPs and original projects. NUT’s co-founder producer Takuya Tsunoki has been appointed as the studio’s president and representative director after the acquisition.

NUT was founded in 2017 by Takuya Tsunoki and Masayuki Narai. The latter served as the company’s CEO until his death in 2025. The studio has produced the anime adaptations of well-known works like Saga of Tanya the Evil and the movie Blue Giant. They also developed original anime projects such as Deca-Dance and Negative Positive Angler. The studio is currently working on the second season of Saga of Tanya the Evil.

Twin Engine was founded in 2015 by Kōji Yamamoto. Their most popular anime projects include Vinland Saga, Hell's Paradise: Jigokuraku, Zenshu, the Netflix anime movie Cosmic Princess Kaguya!, and many more. The studio is currently working on the upcoming fantasy anime Witch Hat Atelier. The company established anime studios BUG FILMS and Scooter Films in 2021, and Studio Chromato and Crew-Cell in 2024. Fans are hoping to see more innovative anime projects from them after NUT’s acquisition.
