This villainess anime turns the trope right over its head.
The official website and social media accounts of the upcoming anime “Within the Villainess” have revealed a 2027 premiere date.
The announcement was accompanied by a promotional video and visual, as well as the main staff and cast for the adaptation. Kadokawa also confirmed the project’s official English title as Within the Villainess.

The upcoming anime is based on Makiburo’s light novel series Akuyaku Reijō no Naka no Hito, with illustrations by Mai Murasaki. The series also received a manga adaptation by Nazuna Shiraume.
The main cast includes:
- Miyuki Sawashiro as Remilia Rose Graupner
- Rie Takahashi as Emi
Yoshihisa Iida will direct the anime at ROLL2. Hiroyuki Yoshino is in charge of series composition, while Reiko Nagasawa designs the characters. Shūji Katayama is composing the music, and Infinite is producing the anime.
The anime is based on Makiburo’s novel series of the same name, which began publishing back in 2020. The manga adaptation by Nazuna Shiraumi was published in the Comic Lake magazine from November 2021 to May 2025. The final chapter of the manga came out on 30 May. The sixth and final volume will be released on 25 June. Both the novels and the manga have yet to receive English translations.
The official introduction, through a machine translation, describes the story as:
Emi, who lost her life in an accident, was reincarnated as a young lady named Remilia Rose Graupner.
She was the most terrifying villain in a certain otome game, and Emi's favorite character.
Thinking of Remilia, who could only curse the world because of her loneliness, Emi tried to make her happy with her own strength.
She diligently pursued her studies and, with her inherent kindness, brought smiles to those around her.
However, the game's "original" protagonist would not allow this.

Betrayed by those she trusted, and unable to avoid the condemnation event just like in the game, Emi, inside Remilia, lost consciousness in the depths of despair.

Rising up, burning with quiet anger, was Remilia, who had regained her body from Emi after 11 years.Having experienced "love" for the first time through Emi's kindness, and having watched her struggle for her sake, Remilia vows revenge against those who hurt her.
