The anime is based on a novel series written by Hifumi and illustrated by Kurihito Muto. The press release that revealed the adaptation includes a statement from the author:

At last, “The Eternal Fool's Words of Wisdom: A Pawsitively Fantastic Adventure” is getting an anime adaptation!!

The novel also has a manga adaptation illustrated by Fuh Araki. The novel series has 14 volumes so far, while the manga has 13. J Novel Club publishes the manga in English.

According to the press release, the story of the anime is:

Through the accidental creation of a divine elixir known as “Eternity Elixir,” Asley gains an immortal body, free from the passage of time.

With more time than he could ever need, he devotes himself entirely to research—spending 5,000 years mastering countless spells and magical arts. In doing so, he becomes an extraordinary mage capable of wielding long-lost ancient magic.

Setting out to broaden his horizons, Asley embarks on a journey alongside his loyal familiar, Pochi. But his quiet, wandering life takes a dramatic turn after a single act of kindness.

Thus begins a wildly offbeat youth fantasy that transcends the ages—

the story of a 5,000-year-old young man and his 800-year-old canine companion.
They’re the strongest around… yet somehow always a little out of sync.

A timeless, slapstick fantasy adventure begins now!
