“The Drops of God” details
The Drops of God anime is adapted from a manga series written by Tadashi Agi (a pseudonym for brother and sister duo Yuko and Shin Kibayashi) and illustrated by Shu Okimoto. It was serialised in Kodansha’s Weekly Morning magazine from 2004 to 2014.
The manga received a live-action Korean drama series adaptation in 2008 later on, and a Japanese live-action drama in 2009. A 2023 drama has also debuted on AppleTV+, with Season 2 also announced recently.
The main cast of the anime includes:
- Kazuya Kamenashi as Shizuku Kanzaki
- Maaya Uchida as Miyabi Shinohara
- Takuya Sato as Issei Tomine
Kamenashi also acted as Kanzaki in the 2009 Japanese drama. Kenji Itoso is directing the anime at Satelight studio. Yuu Mitsuru is writing the scripts and handling the series composition. Takehiro Suwa designs the characters, while Eishi Segawa composes the music for the upcoming series.
Kodansha describes the story of the manga as:
Yutaka Kanzaki, a wine critic whose reviews have enough clout to move the industry worldwide, has died—leaving behind a wine collection worth over two billion yen. Only the one who can name his favorite bottles, plus vintages, will inherit this dream of a cellar. It’s a battle between Yutaka’s biological son Shizuku and adopted child Issei to identify these “Twelve Apostles”—along with the very best wine in his collection, the so-called “Drops of God.”
