Previously, the sequel was supposed to debut in July 2026. The reason for the delay is related to production circumstances.

Manabu Kurihara is returning to direct the second season of The Detective is Already Dead at studio ENGI. Deko Akao is writing the scripts once again while Yosuke Ito continues to design the characters for the anime. Yuuyu, Naoki Tani and Tatsuya Yano are composing the music.
The Detective is Dead Already anime is based on the popular light novel series written by Nigojū and illustrated by Umibōzu. It began publication in November 2019 under Media Factory’s MF Bunko J imprint. A manga adaptation by Mugiko also began serialising in May 2020 in Media Factory’s Monthly Comic Alive magazine. The first season of the anime aired in 2021.
Yen Press publishes both the novel and manga in English, and describes the story as:
