The anime film also revealed its theme song in the new trailer.
The upcoming anime film The Camphorwood Custodian (Kusunoki no Bannin), based on Keigo Higashino’s novel, previously announced its 30 January, 2026 release date. Ahead of the premiere, the social media accounts of the movie released a new trailer, which unveiled more cast members and previewed the theme song.

The new voice actors who have joined the cast are:
- Takehito Koyasu as Masakazu Yanagisawa
- Miō Tanaka as Katsushige Yanagisawa
- Akira Kamiya as Tōichirō Ōba
Previously announced cast members include:

- Yūki Amami as Chifune Yanagisawa
- Asuka Saitō as Yumi Saji
- Ryūbi Miyase as Sōki Ōba

The latest trailer of the movie previews the theme song ‘Katawara nite Tsukiyo’ (Moonlit Light by My Side) performed by Uru. The rock band back number wrote and produced the song for the movie.
Tomohiko Ito is directing the film at A-1 Pictures and Psyde Kick Studios, with Aniplex distributing it. Taku Kishimoto is writing the scripts while Blue Period manga creator Tsubasa Yamaguchi designs the characters with Akiko Itagaki. Veteran composer Yūgo Kanno composes the music for the film. Based on Keigo Higashino’s novel, the story of the movie follows a man named Reito Naoi who is unfairly fired and then incarcerated after he tries to steal something from his former office in retaliation. In jail, Naito is approached by a lawyer, who promises to get him out of jail if he works for his client. It turns out that the client is Naito’s estranged aunt, who wants him to guard a massive camphor tree standing tall on the grounds of an ancient shrine. Soon, Naito realises that there are mysterious entities roaming around that tree.
