Veteran composer Yūgo Kanno will compose the music for the movie.
The upcoming anime movie The Camphorwood Custodian (Kusunoki no Bannin), based on the novel by Keigo Higashino just revealed more updates. Three additional voice actors have joined the movie’s cast. The first full-length trailer of the film has also been released.
The film will premiere in Japan on 30 January, 2026.

The three new voice actors joining the movie cast are:
- Asuka Saitō as Yumi Saji
- Ryūbi Miyase as Sōki Ōba
- Takao Ōsawa as Toshiaki Saji

Veteran composer Yūgo Kanno (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders, Psycho Pass) is composing the music for the upcoming movie.
Tomohiko Ito is directing the film at A-1 Pictures and Psyde Kick Studios, with Aniplex distributing it. Taku Kishimoto is writing the scripts while Blue Period manga creator Tsubasa Yamaguchi designs the characters with Akiko Itagaki. Other production staff members include:

The movie is based on the novel by influential Japanese author Keigo Higashino, who is known for writing The Devotion of Suspect X, Salvation of a Saint, Naoko, Journey Under the Midnight Sun, and many more.
The story follows a man named Reito Naoi who is unfairly fired and then incarcerated after he tries to steal something from his former office in retaliation. In jail, Naito is approached by a lawyer, who promises to get him out of jail if he works for his client. It turns out that the client is Naito’s estranged aunt, who wants him to guard a massive camphor tree standing tall on the grounds of an ancient shrine. Soon, Naito realises that there are mysterious entities roaming around that tree.
