The popular anime franchise “Sword Art Online” has announced a brand new original movie. Titled Sword Art Online -Integral Domain-, the film will open in Japanese theatres in 2028. The main staff for the film was also announced alongside a teaser and visual.
The movie takes place after the anime’s Alicization Arc.

Shingo Adachi directs the movie at A-1 Pictures and Psyde Kick Studio, with Yumiko Yamamoto as the character designer. Animec is distributing the movies.
The film is based on an original story by the Sword Art Online novel author Reki Kawahara.
Yoshitsugu Matsuoka and Haruka Tomatsu return to their main roles as Kirito and Asuna.

What is Sword Art Online about?
The Sword Art Online franchise began with Reki Kawahara’s light novel series which were first published on his website as web novels from 2002 to 2008. Later, they were published in print format under ASCII Media Works' Dengeki Bunko imprint from 2009 with illustrations by abec. The franchise has inspired multiple manga, an anime series, and several anime movie adaptations.
