Super Smash Bros. creator Masahiro Sakurai’s life inspires new educational manga

The manga will be released on 18 November, 2025.

The legendary game director of Super Smash Bros and the creator of Kirby, Masahiro Sakurai, has just reached a new milestone. In his X (formerly Twitter) account, Sakurai revealed that a manga about his life is in the works. This educational and straightforward manga will follow Sakurai’s childhood and professional life. 

The book is launching on 18 November, 2025, two days before the sequel to Sakurai’s latest game Kirby Air Riders releases on the Nintendo Switch 2. 

Masahiro Sakurai’s biographical manga is coming soon

Masahiro Sakurai announced in his post that the manga will launch ‘two days before’ Air Riders, which is on 18 November. The title of this educational manga is Manga de Shiru Hito to Shigoto Sakurai Masahiro Game de Sekai wo Motto Tanoshiku (Learn about People and Work Through Manga: Masahiro Sakurai - Making the World More Fun with Games). The 160 page book is being published by East Press, and Sakurai is listed as one of the supervisors. 

The book will cover Sakurai’s childhood with different video games and how he became interested in them. It will also cover the creation of Kirby, the Super Smash Bros. franchise, the founding of Sora ltd., Sakurai’s legacy and what awaits him and his company in the future. Sakurai’s own company, Sora Ltd., was founded by him back in 2005. He made the Kid Icarus: Uprising game through his studio, and it was released on Nintendo 3DS in 2012. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, his latest entry in the Super Smash Bros. franchise, came out in 2018. The game has all the previous playable characters, and can support up to 8 players. Sakurai received the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's Art Encouragement Prize from the Japanese government’s  Agency for Cultural Affairs, at the 75th award ceremony. Fans are excited to learn more about the life of this video game master.
