The short anime adaptation was planned for a late May 2026 release.

The short anime adaptation of Sakura Kurihara's zombie yuri manga “Let Me Fix You” (Kimi o Tsumugu) has announced a hiatus in production, after disturbing allegations against the CEO of its animation studio came to light.

The short anime, which was planned for a YouTube release in late May, was being animated by the independent European animation studio, Buta Productions.

What is Buta Productions?

Buta Productions is a Europe-based independent animation studio which works on freelance animation production in collaboration with Japanese studios. The studio, according to its official website, has been contributing to anime titles like Bocchi the Rock!, Spy x Family, Otachan!, Wonder Egg Priority, and more.

What are the allegations against Buta Productions' CEO?

Disturbing allegations came to light against Buta Production's Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Frederico Antonio Russo, who often goes by the name “Farfromani”, when an X (formerly Twitter) user going by the tag @Maryco02_ dropped a 33-paged document detailing Russo's grooming of them when they were 14 and he was 23.

"I was 14 and he was 23 and this relationship lasted throughout all my teenage years", a part of the document read, “[…] I fear that his position as a producer of a “studio” gives him much more power and authority that can influence other young artists.”

The document also contained a number of screenshots which features conversations between Russo and the victim on Discord, and another unspecified messaging application. The conversations, which spanned from when the victim was 14 to 18 years old, alleges that Russo groomed the then minor, and even went as far as to “develop” a romantic and sexually-charged relationship with her during that time.

In one of the screenshots, Russo allegedly stated that in Italy, where he is from, “if you want to get engaged to a fourteen-year-old and screw her as much as you want when you're 60, it's perfectly legal.”

In another, Russo allegedly apologised, saying “I'm afraid that maybe I did you a huge wrong by letting you spend your formative teenage years with me.”

“What I have shown is just the tip of something that lasted more than 4 years,” the victim stated at the end of the document, "I was faced with a reality that was difficult to accept at first but I could not accept his conduct and what he had done to me when I was just a little girl."

The victim also stressed that the production company and the rest of the staff were unaware of Russo's alleged actions.

What was “Let Me Fix You” staff's reaction to the allegations?

In response to the allegations against Russo, the team behind “Let Me Fix You” released a statement expressing that they “wish to distance" themselves from the situation.

The statement also revealed that no other people involved in the anime adaptation were aware of Russo's behaviour. The allegations have pushed production to go on pause, as the staff will need “some time to discuss with all other people involved how and whether we can continue with this project.”

On the other hand, the former co-owner of Buta Productions, who goes by the name Blou, also released a statement on X regarding the allegations.

“I fully support all the victims and my heart is with them,” he wrote, “I wish I could have done more and regret not taking more concrete actions.”

Russo has withdrawn from the internet following the allegations, deleting all social media accounts.

What is “Let Me Fix You” about?

“Let Me Fix You” is a yuri manga written and illustrated by Sakura Kurihara. The manga was released as a self-published doujin at Comiket 99 in December 2021, before being officially released digitally by Publisher No.9.

English manga publisher BluPetal launched a kickstarter just this March to campaign for an official English release for “Let Me Fix You.” The publisher describes the story as:

Let Me Fix You (Kimi wo Tsumugu) is a critically acclaimed Yuri manga that blends the macabre with the deeply tender. The story follows Tsumugi, a quiet, skilled seamstress who finds herself in the company of Chise—a girl who is not quite alive, yet not quite gone.

As Tsumugi mends Chise's physical form with careful stitches, a delicate bond forms between the living and the undead. It is a story about the labor of love, the beauty of the "broken," and the lengths we go to for the people who make us feel whole.

The anime production was being headed by ani as director, with Kam'Kamon as art director. Xaryen was in charge of photography, while badbrix was the in-between animation director and colour key artist. Russo was credited as animation producer.
