Shinya Ohira’s “Star Wars Visions ‘Black’” short gets nominated for the Emmy Awards

The short was nominated for the Outstanding Animated Program category. 

The Television Academy's 78th annual Primetime Emmy Awards have revealed its nominations. Shinya Ohira’s “Black” from the Volume 3 of the Star Wars: Visions anthology series has received a nomination in the Outstanding Animated Program category. 

The anime short Black has been nominated for an Emmy Award

The third volume of the award winning anime series Star Wars: Visions was released back on 29 October, 2025. Directed by Shinya Ohira, Black was the final short in the anthology series. The cast of it included:

  • Kenta Miyake as Green Stormtrooper 
  • Tsuyoshi Koyama as Red Stormtrooper

The staff members of the short inlcudes:

  • Director, animation director, writer: Shinya Ohira
  • Executive producers: James Waugh, Josh Rimes, Jacqui Lopez, Shuichiro Tanaka
  • Co-executive producer: Justin Leach
  • Producers: Flannery Huntley, Kanako Shirasaki, Tsutomu Fujio, Jacob Ayres
  • Animation studio: David Productions

The short has now been nominated for the 78th annual Primetime Emmy Awards in the Outstanding Animated Program category. 

Other nominations in this category include episodes of Bob's Burgers, Rick And Morty, The Simpsons, Smiling Friends, and South Park. 

The winners will be announced during the 2026 Emmy Awards on 14 September, at the Peacock theatre in Los Angeles. 

Star Wars: Visions is an anthology series where each story is set in different times and cultural backgrounds within the Star Wars universe. 

Star Wars: Visions ‘Black’ is described as:

A psychedelic battle between past and present, light and dark, and life and death plays out in the haunted psyche of an Imperial trooper who is on the cusp of defeat
