The movie will be theatrically released in Japan on 11 February, 2027.
Back in July, it was confirmed that Shingo Natsume’s first full-length original anime movie at studio Madhouse will be released on 11 February, 2027. In a recent update, a new teaser has been released, alongside the main cast of the film.

The two main cast members of the movie are:
- Mayu Hotta as Neekei
- Issei Takahashi as Masu
Popular alternative rock band hitsujibungaku is performing the movie’s insert song ‘Sugar’, as well as the film’s theme song.
The original work is credited to Shingo Natsume, Tomohiro Suzuki, Bandai Namco Filmworks, and MADHOUSE. Shingo Natsume is also directing the movie at studio MADHOUSE. Natsume Ono is credited for the original character designs while Norifumi Kugai is the movie’s character designer. Ozora Kimishima composes the score while Hitsujibungaku composes and performs the theme and insert songs. Bandai Namco Filmworks is the distributor of the movie.
Artist himiko also began a manga adaptation of the movie on 4 August in Kadokawa’s Young Ace magazine.
Shingo Natsume previously described the movie’s story as (machine translate):
Despair and prayer. A desire to know “the truth that cannot be seen with the eye.”
This film depicts the trajectory of a 15-year-old girl as she descends into the depths of night. She possesses both sane madness and an overly pure rebellious spirit. The sight of her reaching out for “the beautiful things that are truly there” in the darkness may appear to each viewer as despair, or something entirely different. However, this is also a universal story that stirs the conflicting emotions that everyone hides deep within their hearts. We hope you will search for that faint light on the screen.
