The long-running manga "Seraph of the End” (Owari no Seraph) is coming to an end. As per the author’s afterword at the end of the latest 36th volume of the series, the next and 37th volume of the manga will be its last. However, we still don’t know how many chapters are left before the series reaches its climax.

When is the Seraph of the End manga ending?
The update about the author’s note at the end of volume 36 comes from X (formerly Twitter) user @WSJ_manga. The message from Takaya Kagami reads (machine translated):
This is Volume 36. We have reached the grand climax of the story.
As I write these scenes, I find myself reacting with a resounding, “Whoa—!” For these last few volumes, I actually determined the exact number of remaining chapters leading up to the finale and have been proceeding strictly according to the plot.
Throughout this process, as Yu and the others continued to confront the world with such earnestness, I, too, found myself reflecting on my own life as I wrote. And now—believe it or not—the next volume is scheduled to be the final volume of Seraph of the End.
I am writing it while thinking to myself, “Wait... really?! Is this actually happening?” Having come this far, facing the conclusion of a work I’ve lived with for such a long time requires a great deal of mental fortitude; I’m really having to grit my teeth and summon every ounce of determination I have to see it through.
I am moving forward while contemplating the beginnings and endings of so many characters—taking each one very seriously. I am confronting this task with absolute sincerity. In fact, I’m taking it so seriously that I’m completely exhausted!
However! Whether we laugh or cry, the next volume will be the very last.
From the afterword, it’s clear that volume 37 of the manga will be its last. Which means only a few more chapters are left before the story concludes. However, it’s still not clear how many chapters of the manga are still left to be published. On 1 May, 2026, the series’ 156th chapter was released.
What is Seraph of the End about?
Seraph of the End is a dark fantasy manga series written by Takaya Kagami, illustrated by Yamato Yamamoto, and has storyboarding by Daisuke Furuya. Shueisha began publishing the series in their Jump SQ in 2012. In 2015, an anime adaptation by Wit Studio was released, and fans have been waiting for a second season for the last decade. Viz Media publishes the manga in English and describes the story as:
