Amazume has stopped all commercial manga serialisation for the time being.
Popular erotica manga creator Ryuta Amazume revealed on his X (formerly Twitter) account on 6 August that he will be going on a hiatus. This is due to his recent cancer diagnosis. All currently publishing manga by Amazume will enter a hiatus.
When did Amazume reveal his diagnosis?
The mangaka revealed their cancer diagnosis on 6 August, 2026 in an X post, which states (machine translated):
This is Ryuta Amazume.
I’m terribly sorry to share something so personal, but I’ve been diagnosed with cancer. Of course, I intend to fully recover and am tackling the treatment with that goal in mind.
I’ll be taking a break from commercial serializations for a while, but I’ll do my best to regain my daily routine quickly and meet all of you again through my works.
No details about the treatment’s timeline or when the manga will resume serialisation have been shared. Fans are all wishing the mangaka a speedy and complete recovery.
Amazume’s popular manga series include Nana & Kaoru, Sefure, and Jofū.
Nana & Kaoru began serialising in Hakusensha's Young Animal Arashi magazine in 2008, and switched to the main Young Animal magazine in the following year. The main series ended in 2016. Amazume also wrote a spin-off titled Nana to Kaoru: Black Label, which ended in 2014. In 2018, he began serialising the Nana to Kaoru: Kōkōsei no SM Gokko spin-off manga, which ended in 2021. The series has inspired an OVA project and two live action movies.
The Jofū manga began in 2021 in Hakusensha’s Young Animal magazine and ended in 2025.
Amazume’s other manga Let Me See That Look on Your Face began serialising in 2025 in Kodansha’s YanManga web platform. The series ended on 23 July, 2026.
Finally, Amazume’s Sefure manga began in Shōnengahōsha's Young King magazine in 2019. The series published its final chapter on 27 July. 2024.
