A new teaser trailer has been released for Science SARU’s upcoming anime adaptation “THE GHOST IN THE SHELL” (Kōkaku Kidōtai THE GHOST IN THE SHELL ). It has finally been announced that the series will debut on 7 July, 2026. The anime will be released globally on Prime Video except in Russia and China. Prime Video will also stream the anime in Japan for a limited period of time as an early exclusive.
Moreover, the first two episodes of the series will be shown as a film at the The Annecy International Animation Film Festival 2026. New staff and character designs have been revealed as well.

Moko-chan is directing the anime at Science SARU with Toh Enjoe writing and overseeing the scripts. Shuhei Handa is the character designer and chief animation director of the project. Taisei Iwasaki is the music director of the series, and is also composing the music alongside Ryō Konishi and Yuki Kanesaka. The production committee of the show includes Bandai Namco Filmworks, Kodansha, Science SARU, and Production I.G.
A new key visual of Motoko Kusanagi and the Public Security Section 9 led by her has been revealed, as well as their character visuals.
What is THE GHOST IN THE SHELL about?
THE GHOST IN THE SHELL is based on Masamune Shirow’s cyberpunk sci-fi manga Ghost in the Shell which was released from April 1989 to November 1990, in Kodansha’s Young Magazine Zōkan Kaizokuban. The series is set in a futuristic world where people have cyberbrains. Unfortunately, this deep dependence on technology also means the public’s brain is really susceptible to hackers. Set in 2029, the story follows Chief Daisuke Aramaki and Major Mokoto Kusanagi as they try to catch one such hacker who’s been terrorising the citizens. But things soon go wrong.
The manga is a pioneer in the cyberpunk sci-fi crime-thriller genre. The franchise has a few anime adaptations, movies, and even a live-action movie. Fans are excited to see Science SARU’s vision of Ghost in the Shell come to life after their success with DANDADAN.
