The new manga is titled Itsukinomiya Genshitan.
Chie Shinohara, the creator of the popular classic shōjo manga Red River, is launching a brand new manga! The October issue of Shogakukan’s Cheese! magazine announced that Shinohara’s new historical manga, titled “Itsukinomiya Genshitan” (The Records of Itsukinomiya Visions) will launch in the magazine’s next issue on 24 September.

What do we know about the Itsukinomiya Genshitan manga so far?
As per the official accounts of Shogakukan and Chie Shinohara’s X (formerly Twitter) account, the first chapter of the manga will come out on 24 September, 2026, in the next issue of the Cheese! magazine.
The story of Itsukinomiya Genshitan takes place in the Ise Province during Japan's Asuka period (538-710 CE). The “historical mystery epic” centres around the Imperial Princess who serves the gods at the Ise Grand shrine, which was customary for unmarried princesses of that era. The story starts when someone visits the princess, which changes history forever.
Unfortunately, there are no updates about the manga getting an English release as of yet.
Shinohara is known for her Red River manga, which was published from January 1995 to June 2002 in Shogakukan’s Sho-Comi magazine. Viz Media publishes the manga in English. The manga also received an anime adaptation in July 2026, which is currently ongoing.
