Back in August, it was announced that Aito Aoyagi’s Akazukin, Tabi no Tochū de Shitai to Deau (Little Red Riding Hood Encounters a Dead Body During Her Journey) novel series is getting an anime titled “Red Riding Hood: A Detective Story” in 2027. In a new trailer, it was revealed that the series will premiere in January 2027. Additional cast and staff members have also been announced. Crunchyroll will stream the series as it airs.

The anime is based on Aito Aoyagi’s novel series, which began publication by Futabasha in 2020. Kanoka Tana began the manga adaptation in 2023 in Futabasha's Monthly Action magazine. In 2024, the manga moved to the Web Comic Action website and ended in 2025.
The novel series received a live-action movie adaptation titled Once Upon a Crime on Netflix in 2023.
