The oft-delayed, long-awaited Puella Magi Madoka Magica movie, Walpurgisnacht Rising, which is a direct sequel to the 2013 movie “Rebellion” has finally given fans a premiere date: 28 August 2026.
The news was paired with a brand new trailer, as well as a main staff and additional cast announcement.

Two new magical girls are making their debut in Walpurgisnacht: Rising. They are:
- Lilac voiced by Shion Wakayama
- Selme Therese voiced by Tomoyo Kurosawa
Voice actors from both “Puella Magi Madoka Magica” and its spin-off series “Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story” will reprise their roles for “Walpurgisnacht Rising”:

What is Puella Magi Madoka Magica about?
First announced in 2021, “Walpurgisnacht Rising” is part of a greater collection of movies in the Puella Magi Madoka Magica anime franchise. The movie was initially planned for a Winter 2024 release, but was delayed due to unannounced circumstances to Winter 2025. The Winter 2025 premiere was once again delayed to February 2026, before yet again being delayed to its current planned premiere date.
The anime itself, which originally aired in 2011, has garnered a cult following due to its infamous undoing of the magical girl trope.
