A heartfelt Pokémon short is now available in English.
The official Pokémon YouTube channel has released an English dub for “Pokémon: Dragonite and the Special Delivery” (Kairyū to Yūbinya-san), a standalone anime short that originally debuted on Pokémon Day 2025.
The short first premiered in Japanese on February 27, 2025.
What is “Dragonite and the Special Delivery” about?
The short anime's plot is as follows: Hana, who admires Dragonite, receives a letter one day with no address or sender. Determined to find out the sender, Hana sets out with her partner Hogaeta to discover who sent it, eventually finding out that it came from a young boy named Rio. Hana finds out that Rio sent the letter to his father who works in the Kanto region, and takes it upon herself to deliver the message just in time for Rio’s father’s birthday.
Who worked on the Pokémon short?
The anime was produced by CoMix Wave Films, the studio known for producing several films directed by Makoto Shinkai. Taku Kimura directed and storyboarded the project, while Kentarō Nana handled the script. Character designs were created by Asuka Dokai, with Maho Aoki adapting them for animation and serving as animation director.
Meanwhile, Evan Call composed the music for the short, including the theme song “Kami Hikōki” (“Paper Airplane”), performed by suis from yorushika.
Riko Fukumoto, known for several acting and voice acting roles, voiced the protagonist Hana.
