The event will now be online-only following the violent threats made against performers.

Kadokawa’s brand company Media Factory's light novel imprint MF Bunko J has announced that its  MF Bunko J Natsu no Gakuensai 2025 (MF Bunko J Autumn School Festival 2025) has been cancelled due to violent threats against the performers and attendees. This event was also supposed to include the world premiere screening of upcoming anime “Playing Death Games to Put Food on the Table”.

The MF Bunko J event will now be online-only

The MF Bunko J Autumn School Festival 2025 event was supposed to take place on Sunday, 16 November, 2025, at Ikebukuro Sunshine City Fountain Square. However, during a stage event at the same location on 12 November, violent threats were made against the attendees and performers. Due to this huge security concern, the in-person event has been cancelled.

However, the simultaneous streaming on YouTube and Niconico Live will continue as planned. Fans will be able to watch the livestream from their homes but unfortunately won’t be able to attend the in-person event anymore.

Unfortunately, this also means that the world premiere screening of the upcoming anime Playing Death Games to Put Food on the Table, which would have happened at the event, has also been cancelled. The company has offered refunds for the tickets to the customers and also posted a heartfelt apology for the short notice.

The Playing Death Games to Put Food on the Table anime is based on the light novel series written by Yushi Ukai and illustrated by Nekometaru. The series will premiere globally in January 2026, although an exact release date is yet unknown. Yen Press publishes the novel in English and describes the story as:

Yuki wakes up to find herself in an unfamiliar manor, wearing a maid uniform and lying on a luxurious bed. Soon, she discovers five more girls, all dressed the same as her. This is the Ghost House, and the only way they can survive is to make it through the traps that lie in wait-deadly games full of blowguns, buzz saws, locked rooms, and weapons. It’s a hopeless, terrifying situation for everyone there…well, everyone except Yuki. After all, this is her career at seventeen. Do you think that’s odd? She would agree. But that’s how some people are-they earn their living playing death games.
