The military drama anime movie is based on the original manga series by Kazuyoshi Takeda. A spin-off manga titled Peleliu Gaiden has also been released. The story is set in 1944 in the island of Peleliu during the Battle of Peleliu. It follows Private Hiroshi Tamaru, who wants to become a mangaka more than anything. Unfortunately, he is part of the 10,900 Japanese soldiers who have been ordered to stop the 47,561 American soldiers headed their way.
