The staff for the Oshiri Tantei (Butt Detective) anime has revealed a new adaptation, this time following the titular Butt Detective’s dad. The anime will be based on Akihiro Sakuchi’s Oshiri Dandy the Young (Butt Dandy Young) manga.

So… what is Butt Detective?
Butt Detective comes from a Japanese children’s book series published by Poplar Inc., written and illustrated by the author, Troll. The series follows the titular Butt Detective, who quite literally has a butt for a face, and goes to solve a variety of mysteries alongside his trusty dog sidekick and his friends.
Given its… interesting… premise, the series has become quite popular, and has received an anime adaptation spanning two seasons. The first season came out in 2018, followed by Season 2 in 2019, with Toei Animation credited as its animation studio. The anime recently released a new batch of episodes for the Fall 2025 season.
Besides the anime series, the cheeky detective has also previously starred in two movies: Oshiri Tantei Movie 1: Curry Naru Jiken, which premiered in 2019, and Oshiri Tantei Movie 2: Tentoumushi Iseki no Nazo, which premiered in 2020. The latest movie to the franchise, Oshiri Tantei Movie 3: Star and Moon, opened in Japanese theatres just this March 2025.
The newest anime adaptation follows Butt Detective’s dad, Butt Dandy, in his youth as an archeologist. The manga the anime adapts has eight volumes, and is published by Shueisha. The story is officially described as:
The collaboration between 'Butt Detective' and 'Shonen Jump'. 'Butt Dandy' is an adventurer who is the father of 'Butt Detective'. He works for 'The Museum Across the Sea' to protect and collect relics from all over the world. Don't you wonder how he became the dandiest person of the time?
