Kinema Citrus is animating the supernatural series.
A new teaser trailer has been released for the upcoming original supernatural anime series “Goodbye, Lara”. Some additional cast members, as well as information about the opening theme song have also been revealed.
The anime is set to premiere sometime in July 2026, although the exact date hasn’t been confirmed yet.

The four new voice actors joining the cast of Goodbye, Lara are:
- Tomohiro Ono as Yoshiya Ōtsu
- Mitsuaki Madono as Makoto Ōtsu
- Nanae Sumitomoa as Ema Ōtsu
- Masaki Terasoma as Rowan

Who are working on the Goodbye, Lara anime?
The new trailer revealed that the opening theme song ‘Sayonara, Lara’ will be performed by Ikimonogatari.
Takushi Koide is directing the original anime Goodbye, Lara at animation studio Kinema Citrus with Shiori Tani designing the characters. Anna Kawahara handles series composition, while yuma yamaguchi composes the music.
What is Goodbye, Lara about?
Kinema Citrus is making the Goodbye, Lara anime series to celebrate the company’s 15th anniversary. It’s a reimagination of the popular fairytale ‘The Little Mermaid’, set in modern day Japan. The official website describes the story as (machine translated):
Once upon a time, there was a mermaid princess named Lara. She grew up happily, loved by her father, the King of the Sea, and her sisters.
One day, Lara falls in love with a human prince who lives on land. It was a forbidden love, unacceptable in the world of mermaids .
Nevertheless, Lara sets off for the surface world.
She drinks the potion given to her by the witch Grace and transforms into a human.
However, it was a forbidden potion that would transform her into foam bubbles unless she found true love.Despite being a mermaid princess, Lara longed for love with a human. However, her wish was not granted, and she floated in the ocean as foam.
Two hundred years later, Princess Lara the mermaid is resurrected in Lake Biwa.
This time, she will find true love.
