Masashi Kishimoto’s new manga is part of the Naruto franchise’s three-year Project Rasengan plan, with more details coming at Jump Festa 2027.

A new Naruto manga titled Naruto: Shadow Rising has been announced by Masashi Kishimoto. The announcement was made during the Naruto: What’s Next? panel at New York Comic Con 2026 on Saturday, alongside a super teaser announcement video.

The manga is part of Project Rasengan, a three-year plan for upcoming Naruto franchise releases. Other announced projects include a crossover anime series, a mobile game, and a card game. The manga will be illustrated by Kishimoto himself.

More information about Naruto: Shadow Rising will be revealed at Jump Festa 2027. Jump Festa 2027 will take place from 19 to 20 December, at Makuhari Messe convention center in Chiba, Japan.

What do we know about Naruto: Shadow Rising?

The announcement has not revealed what fans can expect from the new Naruto: Shadow Rising manga. However, the trailer did feature sketches of Naruto's face being sculpted into the Hokage Rock, Naruto donning his Hokage headdress, Kakashi smiling, Sasuke's stoic face, and Sakura fawning over a baby Sarada. It is likely that Naruto: Shadow Rising will take place in the time after Naruto Shippuden but before the beginning of Boruto: Next Generations.

Masashi Kishimoto serialised Naruto in Weekly Shonen Jump from September 1999 to November 2014. The manga has reached 250 million copies in circulation worldwide.

The sequel manga, Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, began serialisation in Weekly Shonen Jump in May 2016. Ukyou Kodachi initially wrote the story, with Mikio Ikemoto illustrating and Kishimoto supervising. The manga moved to V-Jump in 2019, and Kishimoto took over the story in November 2020.

The second part, Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, launched in August 2023, with Kishimoto writing the story and Ikemoto handling the illustrations. Shueisha released its ninth volume on 2 October, while the seventh English volume is scheduled for 2 March, 2027.

The original Naruto television anime aired from October 2002 to February 2007, with its sequel, Naruto Shippuden, running from February 2007 to March 2017.

The Boruto: Naruto Next Generations manga was adapted into a 293-episode television anime that aired from April 2017 to March 2023. A second part, Boruto: Naruto Next Generations Part 2, is currently in production.

VIZ Media licensed the original Naruto manga in English in November 2002 and released its final volume in February 2015. The company also licensed Boruto: Naruto Next Generations in September 2016.
