A new story unfolds in the universe of Code Geass!
The Code Geass Project “To 20th” event, which celebrates the 20th anniversary of the franchise, has unveiled a new anime series within the universe of Code Geass.
Titled “ Code Geass: Aspal the Star Chaser” (Code Geass: Hoshi Oi no Aspal), the main staff, announcement video, and key visual has also been unveiled.
Hoshi Oi no Aspal details
The new anime is being helmed by director Kazuya Nomura, who is best known for directing the crime thriller anime series Moriarty the Patriot.
Mado Nozaki is handling series composition, while character design is being done by Rolua. The Argamata design is handled by Yoshi.
Not much is known about Aspal the Starchaser, as a story and broadcast date is yet to be revealed, but judging by the key visual, this new anime project may veer away from the mainline Code Geass story, and is likely to not include previous characters from the series.
It is also introducing a new Geass user to the mix: a woman with silver hair and the Geass symbol engraved into her right eye, as well as a heavily scarred girl who seems to be deeply connected with her. Any one of the two could be the titular Aspal.
Series creator Goro Taniguchi is not credited in the staff for Hoshi Oi no Aspal, so it’s highly likely that he is not involved in the new entry to the franchise.
It also seems like the original character concept designers, the popular manga group CLAMP, are not involved in the project–a first, as they have also provided original concepts for the 2024 Code Geass: Rozé of the Recapture anime series, and were involved in the original 2006 Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion series and its later entries.
Set in an alternate reality Japan annexed by the Holy Britannian Empire, Code Geass explored a futuristic story of oppression, colonialism, rebellion, mech, and immortality through the mysteriously alluring and dangerous power of Geass.
