Dante's story is heading toward its final chapter.
Netflix has officially announced that its animated adaptation of Capcom's “Devil May Cry” franchise will return for a third and final season.
The announcement comes just weeks after Season 2 premiered on 12 May, 2026.
Why is Devil May Cry Season 3 the final season?
According to showrunner Adi Shankar, the series was always planned as a three-part story inspired by Dante Alighieri's “Divine Comedy.”
In a statement shared with the announcement, Shankar explained that each season represents a different stage of the classic literary work.
"Season 1 was Inferno. Season 2 was Purgatorio. Season 3 will be Paradiso."
He added that all three seasons collectively form what he calls the "Force Edge Saga," describing the project as a movie trilogy presented in television format.
The full statement reads:
"For those of you who have been paying attention to the episode names, I have been showing you the structure the entire time. This was always Dante's Divine Comedy with guns and a red coat. Season 1 was Inferno. Season 2 was Purgatorio. Season 3 will be Paradiso. These three seasons make up “The Force Edge Saga." Since inception, "The Force Edge Saga" was designed as a movie trilogy disguised as a television series."
In a different statement to his personal X account, Shankar reiterated that he “set out to prove that video game adaptations do not have to be flavorless corporate sludge assembled in a content factory,” further claiming that he had accomplished that mission.
Produced by Studio Mir, the first season debuted on Netflix in April 2025 to much acclaim.
No release window for the third season has been announced as of yet.
