The report is based on a survey of 15,000 people in 15 countries conducted by Interpret, a global research firm. The main goal of the report is to highlight the popular trends in the anime fandoms, and also compare viewership and viewing habits across countries.
Which countries is Netflix more popular in?
It was reported in the survey that outside of Japan and China, Netflix is the most popular anime streaming service in major countries. This includes: the USA, India, South Korea, France, Germany, Brazil, and the UK. Prime Video and YouTube were also highlighted as top choices in some countries. Outside of Japan, China, and South Korea, Crunchyroll made it to the top 10 in all these countries.
What are some global anime trends as per this report?
The survey included the opinion of 15,000 people across 15 countries, and it was revealed in the report that the percentage of anime watchers across all of them are projected to increase from 2020 to 2025. India and South Korea show particularly rapid growth in terms of anime viewership. Currently, the top three countries in anime viewership are Japan, China, and India.
‘Action-adventure’ ranked as the top genre across nine countries, while ‘Isekai’ is ranked highly in Japan and South Korea.
The most-watched title in Japan, China, and South Korea is Detective Conan. Naruto/Boruto ranked 15th in Japan, but it ranked highly in many other countries.
Among works released since 2020, Jujutsu Kaisen ranked high in all countries. Dragon Ball and the recent Dragon Ball DAIMA were really popular in India and Brazil.
