Netflix has announced a new original anime film titled “Cosmic Princess Kaguya!”, including a trailer and a visual.

The original anime film is a modernised take on the classic Japanese monogatari “The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter”, and features iconic vocaloid songs as its soundtrack.
The main cast are:
- Yuko Natsuyoshi as Kaguya
- Anna Nagase as Iroha Sakayori
- Saori Hayami as Yachiyo Runami
Shingo Yamashita helms the film as his feature directorial debut at Studio Colorido and Studio Chromato. Yamashita had previously worked as an opening sequence director for Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1, Chainsaw Man, and Urusei Yatsura.
The character designs are done by Hechima and Akihiro Nagae. The soundtrack will be composed of popular songs from Vocaloid producers Ryo of Supercell, Yuigot, Aqu3ra, HoneyWorks, 40mP, and Kz of Livetune–with the trailer already featuring Ryo from Supercell’s iconic Hatsune Miku single “World is Mine”.

Iroha, a high school student living on her own, has her life upended when she takes in Kaguya, who came from the moon. Eventually, they bond over their shared love for virtual idols in the metaverse “Tsukuyomi”. But like the original “Princess Kaguya”, Kaguya cannot stay on earth forever…
