The original visual novel’s writer released a statement on their social media.
It was revealed by Aniplex that the popular visual novel Needy Girl Overdose (also called Needy Streamer Overload) is getting an anime adaptation in April 2026. Yostar Pictures is animating the series based on WSS Playground and Xemono. However, before fans could be happy with the news, the game's original writer, Nyalra, came forward with a statement regarding his experience with production.
Needy Girl Overdose anime gets caught up in massive controversy
Right after the announcement was made, the visual novel’s original author Nyalra released a statement on his X (formerly Twitter) account. The statement alleged that although the author was deeply involved in the process of making the game and the anime, things started to go south a few months ago.
In July, Why So Serious Inc. the original developers of the game, removed Nyalra from the projects completely. Before the anime adaptation was formally announced, the author was allegedly informed that he won’t be participating in any of the upcoming promotional activities for the anime.
Nyalra also said that he has not received full compensation for his work from WSS and is currently in the process of taking legal action.
He wrote 13 scripts for the anime, as well as new songs, all of which he has not received compensation for. He has also been removed from all promotional activities by WSS.
The author also asked the fans to watch the anime when it comes out as a very talented team of people have worked on it. Due to the whole situation, a planned music event for one of the project’s main characters KAngel, has been cancelled.
Nyalra has revealed that he has been diagnosed with adjustment disorder and depression during this situation. He’s working with his lawyers to reach a formal resolution that protects his creative rights and integrity.
In a reply to his statements on X, Nyalra confirmed that Aniplex, who is affiliated with the project, was "at a loss" regarding the unpaid dues. Nyalra further posited that Aniplex wanted to pay him a "fair amount of money".
A user replied to Nyalra's confirmation about Aniplex's involvement, stating that although Aniplex wants to pay the full compensation, due to the contracts Nyalra signed, it may be a difficult and "infuriating" situation.
Back in September, Nyalra also announced that he’s establishing a company so that he can hold 100% of the rights to his creative work. His planned projects include a 13-episode anime, a new visual novel game, and a bigger indie game.
