What is Migratory Birds & Snail about?
The Migratory Birds & Snail anime is based on the manga of the same name created by Makoto Takatsu. It began serialisation on Wani Books’ NewsCrunch web manga platform in October 2019. As of 25 March, 2026, six compiled book volumes of the series have been shipped.
The story of the manga follows Unpei Mochizuki who works as a mechanic. He is bored with his life, and after causing a customer trouble due to a mistake he made, he gets the urge to run somewhere far away where nobody knows him. He starts driving his car to chase the sudden urge, and meets Tsugumi Nagisa on the side of the road. She is a picture book writer and digital nomad, who travels in her car with her dog. Together, they start a journey in the van ‘Sumika’, travelling around Japan and living the true nomad life.
