The popular figure skating anime is getting its own movie.
It has been confirmed by Kadokawa and the official X (formerly Twitter) account for the sports anime “Medalist”, that the anime franchise will be receiving a theatrical movie, which is scheduled to be released in 2027. The movie, with a title yet to be revealed, will depict events after Season 2, which is set to broadcast on 24 January, 2026.
Unfortunately, no other information about the movie was revealed. However, the announcement was paired with a new key visual for the upcoming second season:
What to expect with the “Medalist” movie
Season 2 for “Medalist” is confirmed to have 10 episodes, which will cover the Chubu Block Tournament arc of the manga–meaning that the sequel anime will cover Volume 5 and 6.
It's highly likely that the upcoming movie will adapt Volume 7, where Inori and her trainer, Tsukasa, will once again face off against their long-time rival, Hikaru, in the All-Japan Novice A competition.
Although no staff has been confirmed, we can expect that Studio ENGI will once again helm the production, as the studio has previously done Season 1 and Season 2. It's unknown whether director Yasutaka Yamamoto will step in for the movie. We can expect more information about this project in the future.
Season 2 is set to premiere on 24 January, 2026. The anime stars:
- Inori Yuitsuka voiced by Natsumi Haruse
- Tsukasa Akeuraji voiced by Takeo Otsuka
- Hikaru Kamisaki voiced by Kana Ichinose
- Jun Yodaka voiced by Yuma Uchida
- Rioh Sonidori voiced by Makoto Koichi
- Shinichiro Sonidori voiced by Taito Ban
Kodansha publishes the Medalist manga by Tsurumaikada in their Monthly Afternoon magazine. The publication describes the story as:
Inori is a little girl who dreams of becoming a figure skater. Yet, the obstacles to this dream feel insurmountable: Inori’s already “too old” (she’s 11); she’s always had trouble at school; and, worst of all, her older sister’s skating dreams ended in failure, so her mother is dead set against putting her other daughter through a similar experience. Still, the rink is the only place Inori can be herself, and she’s out on the ice when a fateful meeting takes place. Tsukasa, a frustrated coach on the edge of giving up competitive skating himself, will join Inori to form an unstoppable duo powered by hard work, transcendent joy, and an unshakeable belief that they can prove everyone wrong.
