Tatsuo Satō was born on 7 July, 1964, in Japan’s Kanagawa prefecture. He graduated from Waseda University, and started working as an assistant director and animator at Ajiado. But then he moved on to directing and worked on Gaki Deka and Chibi Maruko-chan.
Satō directed popular anime series such as Martian Successor Nadesico, Stellvia, Cat Soup, Atom the Beginning, Shigofumi - Letters from the Departed, Lagrange - The Flower of Rin-ne, Soar High! Isami, Helck, and the Ninja Scroll.
