"Awakening Mystery" is the first in a film series adapting Made in Abyss.
The “Made in Abyss” official social media accounts and website has confirmed the premiere date of the first movie of its sequel film series, “Awakening Mystery”. The movie is set to open in Japanese theatres on 23 October, 2026.
Furthermore, the film has unveiled a new key visual. A global theatrical release is yet to be confirmed.

Who are the staff and cast of “Made in Abyss: Awakening Mystery”?
Masayuki Kojima is helming the film as director at Kinema Citrus, with a screenplay being done by Hideyuki Kurata. The character design is done by Yuka Kuroda and Kazuya Kise.
Some cast members are also confirmed to be reprising their roles, they are:
- Miyu Tomita as Rico
- Mariya Ise as Reg
- Shiori Izawa as Nanachi
- Misaki Kuno as Faputa
“Awakening Mystery” will be a direct sequel to the anime’s second season, “The Golden City of the Scorching Sun”.
What is “Made in Abyss” about?
“Made in Abyss” adapts the manga by Akihito Tsukushi, which has been serialised in Takeshobo's Web Comic Gamma website since October 2012. The series is still ongoing with 14 tankobon volumes as of August 2025.
Seven Seas entertainment publishes the manga in English, and describes the story as:
