In the recent chapter of the Spy x Family manga, we see Yor get tickets to be part of the live studio audience of a popular romance TV show’s cast and director meeting. She plans to invite her husband Loid, which greatly upsets her brother Yuri. When Loid and Yor reach the location, they see that Yuri is also there after managing to get a ticket for himself. Although the live telecast programme starts out well, everything goes wrong very quickly.

The issue begins with an announcement that the cast and director of the hit romance TV show ‘Five-Year Love Plan’ will be appearing on a special live broadcast. Yor gets two tickets to watch the live show from her boss, who wants to thank her for her hard work. Two co-workers try to take them from Yor since she doesn’t watch the show, but she replies that she has watched a few episodes and liked them. Another co-worker gives her the idea to ask her husband to go with her to the live broadcast as a date. Yor shyly contemplates it while Mr. Jones (Hemlock), scolds the ladies for talking about romance during work hours.
Later, on the train, Yor tells her brother Yuri that she will be asking Loid to accompany her to the show. This news shocks and gravely depresses Yuri. He promises to be there even if it means he will be the third wheel. At home, Loid contemplates whether Anya is truly talented after watching her play with her Stella Stars. When Yor arrives and asks him to the show, he says yes because the director used to make propaganda films and has political connections, while the invited opera singer Allegrossa is allegedly having an affair with the broadcast minister. Although he only agrees to gain political information, Yor is ecstatic about it and starts wondering what she should wear to the event.
On the day of the live show, the couple reach the live event venue: the Berlint TV Tower. After a short trip, the live studio audience are welcomed into the room where the broadcast will take place. Suddenly, Yuri appears and greets them, which makes Loid worry as he already suspected him of being Twilight once. The broadcast begins, and Yor is mesmerised by the acting and wishes she could play her role this well. At home, Franky and Anya banter while the latter changes the channel from the broadcast to a cartoon.
The live event takes a break to read an announcement, giving Loid the opportunity to get out of the room. Yuri keeps following him angrily and Loid realises that he can’t do anything while under his brother-in-law’s watch. From a conversation between some backstage workers, we learn that the stage settings for the next part of the show haven’t been done yet. Nobody answers the call either, and the lift is also broken. Suddenly, we see a group of people dressed as studio staff wearing creepy expressions.
Loid comes back to the room, and the programme resumes. They start a game involving the audience and Loid reminds himself to be careful not to appear on camera. The creepy stage crew walks into the room. Just as the quiz begins, some of the men point guns to the heads of the director and the opera singer. The rest stand behind them with rifles. After terrifying everyone, one of the men takes up the microphone and starts addressing the nation of Ostania. He says that this is an emergency broadcast of a brief airing of grievances.
Spy x Family Chapter 128 review
The chapter started out fun and lighthearted, and ended in a nailbiting cliffhanger. It’s likely that we will get to learn more about the attackers and their motives in the next chapter of Tatsuya Endo’s manga. Seeing how danger seems to follow the Forger household, I’m not surprised to see Loid and Yor’s date get derailed this way. But between Loid, Yor, and Yuri, I am sure the perpetrators will be dealt with well.
