Both manga will return at later dates.

Hobunsha’s Manga Time Kirara magazine and Comic Fuz website have announced that Afro’s two popular manga series “Laid-Back Camp” and “mono” will be going on an indefinite hiatus. The reason behind the hiatus is Afro’s health worsening due to the stress of serialising two manga simultaneously.

When are the Laid-Back Camp and mono manga returning?

Unfortunately, the editors haven’t specified when the manga series are coming back. The resumption dates for mono and Laid-Back Camp will be announced at a later date. The statement from the Manga Time Kirara editorial department reads (machine translated):

Thank you for your continued readership of “mono”. Due to the author's poor health, “mono” will be on hiatus for a while.

After discussing the author's health limitations while simultaneously serializing “Laid-Back Camp”, we have decided that it would be best to put “mono” on hiatus for a while. The resumption date will be announced in Manga Time Kirara Carat magazine.

In addition, “Laid-Back Camp”, which is currently being serialized in COMIC FUZ, will be taking a short break before resuming. We sincerely apologize to our readers who have been looking forward to it, but we ask for your continued support of both “mono”  and “Laid-Back Camp”.

What is Laid-Back Camp about?

Afro’s Laid-Back Camp manga began serialising in Hobunsha’s Manga Time Kirara Forward magazine from 2015 to 2019 before being transferred to the Comic Fuz website. The manga has an anime adaptation which began in 2018, with a spin-off titled Room Camp coming out in 2020. The second season of the main anime aired in 2021 and an anime movie was released in 2022. The third anime season came out in 2024 with the fourth to follow in 2027.

The manga also has a live-action drama series which aired in 2020, with the second season following in 2021.

Yen Press publishes the slice-of-life manga in English and describes the story as:

Rin enjoys camping by the lakeshore, Mt. Fuji in view. Nadeshiko rides her bike to see Mt. Fuji, too. As the two eat cup noodles together, what scenery will they behold? This series will make readers fall in love with camping!

What is mono about?

Afro began serialising the mono manga in Hobunsha’s Manga Time Kirara Miracle! magazine in May 2017. It was transferred to the Manga Time Kirara Carat magazine in December of the same year. An anime adaptation of the manga aired in 2025 and is currently available to stream on Crunchyroll.

Yen Press releases the manga in English and describes the story as:

After three girls merge their school clubs to keep them alive, their travels around Japan become the perfect subject for a new work by the town’s resident manga artist. Time to take in the sights, try out all the gadgets, and snack on local delicacies!
