A newly-opened website and X (formerly Twitter) account for Kyoko Hikawa's isekai romance manga “From Far Away” has announced that an anime adaptation is now in the works.
The announcement was paired with a video and a new original illustration by Hikawa to celebrate the news, as well as the manga's 35th anniversary. This is the second ‘90s shoujo manga to be announced for an anime adaptation recently, the first being for Chie Shinohara’s 1995 manga “Red River”.

The celebratory illustration also includes a comment from Kyoko Hikawa, which in a machine translation reads:
The work "From Far Away," which has garnered the most reactions from readers over the 20 years since its serialization ended—and has seen ongoing calls for an anime adaptation—has finally been brought to fruition. Along with the author, I hope everyone can enjoy it as well.
Noriyuki Abe, who is known for directing the Bleach movies, will be directing the anime adaptation. Other information, like production studio, the rest of the staff, and cast are yet to be revealed.
“From Far Away” was serialised in Hakusensha's LaLa shoujo magazine from 24 September, 1991 to 24 October, 2002. The chapters were collected into 14 tankobon volumes, with Viz Media publishing the series in English.
Viz Media describes the story as:
On her way home from school one day, Noriko is unexpectedly plunged into a strange and extraordinary fantasy world. Her troubles compound exponentially when she is rescued and befriended by a handsome young man by the name of Izark.
He may be brave and courageous, but inside Izark lurks the darkest evil imaginable. And according to an ancient prophecy, Noriko possesses the power to unleash that evil. Now, inexorably bound together, these two unlikely allies must navigate a world both wondrous and hostile.
