Back in 2011, Japan’s Fukuoka Prefecture introduced the Koshino Nana Komekami! rice collection. It was a set of seven different rice bags each with its own anime girl mascot. 15 years later, the popular marketing tactic has bloomed into its own anime series titled “Komekami! Girls”, set to premiere on 2 April, 2026. The latest trailer of the show also unveiled its cast, staff, and other details.

What is the plot of the Komekami! Girls anime?
As previously mentioned, the Komekami! Girls anime began with the 2011 rice mascot project. It has since become a multimedia franchise which includes manga, short anime, and light novels. The anime has been planned for a long time, as a pilot episode titled Ikinari Oinari Shōbu aired back in 2023.
The story of the anime centers around seven sisters known as the Komekami! Girls, or the children of the Rice Goddess. They are born from the folklore which says that seven gods live in each grain of rice. The seven sisters set out on a journey to find their mother the Rice Goddess, who was called back to heaven and can’t return to the earthly realm. They start out from their home in Usa City in Oita Prefecture and travel to different Hachiman shrines in the Kyushu island. As they go, the girls try different cuisines, mix with new people, solve various problems in the areas they visit. Growing up and maturing through their journey to find their mother.
